We aim to help the world understand Afghanistan and the needs of the Afghan people.”." -Jason Criss Howk (USA ) GFA Director www.globalfriendsofafghanistan.org @GFAfghanistan A Historic Step Toward Justice and Human Rights The International Criminal Court’s (ICC) issuance of arrest warrants for the Taliban’s senior leaders marks a watershed moment in the global fight against impunity and the systemic oppression of Afghan women, girls, and vulnerable persons. This landmark decision not only exposes the Taliban’s regressive policies of gender apartheid but also affirms the courageous voices of Afghan women and human rights defenders who have long decried these crimes. Anchored in the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), this action represents a vital step toward holding the Taliban accountable for their institutionalised discrimination and heinous abuses in Afghanistan. At Global Friends of Afghanistan, we believe this is a defining moment for Afghanistan and humanity as a whole. The international community must seize this momentum to demand the immediate reversal of the Taliban’s oppressive decrees and ensure women’s full, equal, and meaningful participation in Afghanistan’s future. Let this decision not only pave the way for justice but also inspire global efforts to codify gender apartheid as a crime against humanity, ensuring such persecution is never met with impunity. Today is a good day for justice, a good day for Afghanistan, and a good day for universal human rights. www.globalfriendsofafghanistan.org @GFAfghanistan "For the last 20 years, Afghanistan has been gifted with help from around the world. There are people who love and care for it. GFA is a bridge between Afghans and their friends. I see GFA as an effective & influential platform for Afghanistan. " -Crystal Bayat (Afghanistan) GFA Scholar www.globalfriendsofafghanistan.org @GFAfghanistan www.globalfriendsofafghanistan.org @GFAfghanistan "Afghanistan is a land of diverse people, cultures and ethnicities. If we want an Afghanistan free of violence, intolerance and terrorism, we must work to foster equal respect, human rights and protection for all people in Afghanistan."" -Sitarah M ohammadi (Afghanistan) GFA Fellow "It is imperative to mobilize through platforms such as GFA as the international community and media turns away from the Afghan crisis. We must take constructive steps collectively in tackling the urgent needs of the Afghan people." -Sara Wahedi (Afghanistan) GFA Scholar www.globalfriendsofafghanistan.org @GFAfghanistan GF A 2022 Connecting Afghans with the world Global Friends of Afghanistan 1st Annual Conference September 1st 2022 At: McDonough Business School, Rafik B.
