This landmark decision not only exposes the Taliban’s regressive policies of gender apartheid but also affirms the courageous voices of Afghan women and human rights defenders who have long decried these crimes. Anchored in the principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), this action represents a vital step toward holding the Taliban accountable for their institutionalised discrimination and heinous abuses in Afghanistan. At Global Friends of Afghanistan, we believe this is a defining moment for Afghanistan and humanity as a whole. The international community must seize this momentum to demand the immediate reversal of the Taliban’s oppressive decrees and ensure women’s full, equal, and meaningful participation in Afghanistan’s future.
